Canadian Stories by Cody Groat

"All of a meter away from me, the former Prime Minister of Canada sighed. He broke eye contact, maybe for the first time in the past half an hour, and looked down. He rubbed his eyes with his thumb and index finger. The Right Honourable Paul Martin looked up at the roof, sighed again, and looked back at me."

From the small town of Ingersoll, Ontario, I found myself in the office of a Prime Minister. I was only 18-years-old, and was interviewing one of the most powerful men in my nation What had started as an innocent joke, telling a world-record holder I was a reporter in the hopes of hearing more of his life story, had somehow developed into a legitimate enterprise.

From an innocent joke, I befriended drug lords and drag queens, shared tea with astronauts and Olympians, discussed cinema with Academy-Award winning director Norman Jewison and actor Dan Aykroyd, and even Skyped the President of Latvia. All of this while still a teenager.
